Leave a Trail If your going to your friendly neighbor s house, leave some breadcrumbs. During a disaster you probably won t have many ways of communicating with your family, so it s important to have a plan in place ahead of time. Pick a place to meet that is nearby your house like a park, plaza, church, school or even an intersection. Basically, you want to pick something open and familiar as a central meeting point for during or after a disaster. First, try to meet at your house, and if it is inaccessible or destroyed, meet at the farther away location. But what if that plan doesn t work out? What if you need to leave or you are evacuated? How will the rest of your family ever find you? All of our kits come with a large ½ Sharpie felt-tip marker so you can write notes on doors, walls, even windows. Make sure you have a large felt-tipped pen in your disaster kit that can write on wet or dirty surfaces. It s important to train your family in leaving messages that follow the reporter
